Internal workshop
2006, Milano [workshop]
What is RFID technology?
RFID is an acronym that stands for Radio Frequency Identification, a data acquisition and identification system.
The RFID technology is at a constant improvement, its application ranges from public transport to supermarkets, from banking systems to animal and goods tracking.
Even the world of design is starting to appreciate the huge potential of such a system and its applications within the fields of exhibitions set up, show rooms and the design of new products.
At first as e1 (exhibition unit) within Interaction Design Institute Ivrea and now come ID-Lab, we started realising its many uses and realised we were often using this technology in our projects. On the occasion of this workshop a user-friendly versatile and stable system was tweaked. The main objective is to make designers autonomous in the system’s programming and management and to tweak a standardisation process of the simple technologies we more commonly use.
The system centres on Arduino card-based hardware and connects to the computer with a common USB port. The management software of the contents has been developed to parry the daunting compilations of text code lines to those unaccustomed to programming.
